Essie Davis is an Australian actress and singer, best known for her roles as Phryne Fisher in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Amelia Vanek in The Babadook, and Lady Crane in Game of Thrones. Born on January 19, 1970, in Hobart, Tasmania, she began her acting career in theatre in 1993 with the Bell Shakespeare company. She gained international recognition for her stage work, winning a Laurence Olivier Award in 2003 for A Streetcar Named Desire and a Tony Award nomination in 2004 for Jumpers. Her notable film roles include The Matrix Reloaded, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Australia, and True History of the Kelly Gang.
