Ted Danson is an American actor, environmental activist, and author. Born Edward Bridge Danson III on December 29, 1947, in San Diego, California, he gained widespread fame for his iconic role as Sam Malone in the NBC sitcom 'Cheers' (1982-1993), for which he won two Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. During the final seasons of 'Cheers', he was the highest-paid actor on television, earning $450,000 per episode. His career spans decades with notable roles in television series such as 'Becker' (1998-2004), 'Damages' (2007-2010), 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' (2011-2015), 'Fargo', and 'The Good Place' (2016-2020), as well as films like 'Three Men and a Baby' (1987) and 'Saving Private Ryan' (1998). Danson started his acting career in 1975 on the soap opera 'Somerset' and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama from Carnegie Mellon University. A dedicated environmentalist, he co-authored the book 'Oceana: Our Endangered Oceans and What We Can Do To Save Them' and has participated in climate-change protests. He has been married to actress Mary Steenburgen since 1995.
