Rob Reiner Short biography
Robert Reiner (March 6, 1947 – December 14, 2025) was an American filmmaker, actor, and activist. Born in the Bronx, New York, he was the son of comedy legend Carl Reiner and actress Estelle Reiner. He rose to national prominence in the 1970s playing Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the sitcom All in the Family, a role that earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards. Reiner later transitioned into a prolific directing career, responsible for several of the most iconic American films of the 1980s and 1990s. He was also a prominent liberal activist, co-founding the American Foundation for Equal Rights to challenge California's ban on same-sex marriage.
On December 14, 2025, Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Their son, Nick Reiner, was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths.
