Jacob Benjamin "Jake" Gyllenhaal (born December 19, 1980) is an American actor and film producer. Born into a prominent filmmaking family in Los Angeles, he is the son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner. His older sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, is also an acclaimed actress and director. Raised in a creative environment, Gyllenhaal made his film debut at age 11 in the 1991 comedy City Slickers. He attended Columbia University for two years before leaving to fully pursue his acting career.
