Robert Anthony De Niro Jr. was born on August 17, 1943, in the Manhattan borough of New York City. He is an American actor, director, and producer who has been recognized as one of the greatest actors of all time. He has won two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Cecil B. DeMille Award for his contributions to cinema.
De Niro's parents, Virginia Admiral and Robert De Niro Sr., were both artists. His father was a painter, sculptor, and poet, and his mother was a writer. De Niro's parents divorced when he was two years old. He grew up in Greenwich Village and attended Little Red School House, a progressive school that emphasized creativity and self-expression.
De Niro began acting in plays at a young age. He made his film debut in 1969 in the low-budget drama "Three Rooms in Manhattan." He quickly gained recognition for his intense and naturalistic performances. In 1974, he won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Vito Corleone in "The Godfather: Part II."
