Mokgadi Caster Semenya (born January 7, 1991) is a South African middle-distance runner specializing in the 800 meters. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a three-time World Champion in the women's 800m. Her career has been defined by tremendous success on the track and a high-profile legal battle against World Athletics (formerly the IAAF) regulations concerning female athletes with Differences of Sexual Development (DSD) and naturally high testosterone levels. Semenya was assigned female at birth, raised as a girl, and has always identified as female.
