Uday Kotak Short biography
Uday Kotak is an Indian banker and businessman who serves as Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Bank, one of India's most successful banks. He is known for his leadership in the financial services industry and his contributions to the Indian economy.
Kotak was born in Mumbai, India, on March 15, 1959. He earned a bachelor's degree from Sydenham College and a postgraduate degree in management studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies. After completing his MBA, he started Kotak Capital Management Finance Ltd (which later became Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd). From a seed capital of less than US$80,000 borrowed from family and friends, he converted a bill-discounting start-up into a financial services conglomerate with assets of US$19 billion.
Kotak is a respected figure in the Indian business community and has been recognized for his contributions to the country's economic development. He is a recipient of the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honors.
